Oct 31, 2023: Halloween! Taking Stock of October

Asian Village – Tbilisi, Georgia – 11:10pm

Wooohoooo! It’s the end of October, and a spooktacular night.

I love this time of the year. I do like Halloween and things that go bump in the night, even if I am a huge scaredy-cat and can’t watch horror movies by myself. I still love to watch them and scream, although I have to watch them with friends. A few days ago, I went to the international horror film festival screening at Terminal and saw a few scary indie films and even though it was only dim in the room, not completely dark, I found myself jumping in my seat during a few of the jump scares… No doubt the people behind me (perhaps only one or two because it was a small audience that day) had a laugh.

I started the day with some work, and then a bit of a lie-in because I had to get up at the unholy hour of 6am to get that job done. I had to reschedule a few things today, but managed to get a Halloween massage and facial (not actually Halloween-themed lol, but I just like saying that), followed by a violin and drums lesson at New Music studio. I had been planning on learning the Harry Potter theme song for Halloween, but we ended up learning Faded on the violin, and then Begging on the drums. Temo invited me to perform at the Christmas concert and said I could play both the violin and the drums then (he said it would definitely take place before the 20th). He recommended that I buy a cheap violin. He told me it would only cost 150 lari or something, including the case and bow! It will be low-quality wood, but he said he could give me his old violin strings as a gift (he changes them out every six months) and that would improve the sound. That’s so nice of him! I still have to decide on a song to play on the violin, but I think we’ll practice Begging on the drums for the Christmas concert.

So, I was at the music studio for about three and a half hours, from 2pm to 5:45pm, and then I headed to Fabrika. I’ve been using Bolt all day and it’s super cute that all the car symbols on the app appear as scary pumpkins or witches on broomsticks. Adorable!

I had a two-hour session booked at CES. I really partied it up, playing some Halloween remixes. That was a lot of fun, even if I didn’t really advance much with my DJing skills. I feel like every time I do a nice mix, it’s “sheer dumb luck,” as McGonagall would said, rather than actual skill lol.

As for my writing over the last month… I have been slacking on it. I have been taking a lot of classes and advancing somewhat on all these fronts, so I’m developing in well-rounded ways, but I know I’m using all those as excuses not to work on my writing. I had planned to get four horror novellas published by Halloween… And it’s already 11:20pm on Halloween night, and I don’t even have one finished novella to put out… Ah well. I failed in that mission, but I still managed to get a lot written, even if that word count is spread between various projects and mostly blog posts… I do think I need to focus more on novella writing than blog writing. Either way, I managed to write most days this month (not quite a streak, but I think I only skipped two days), and wrote at least 31, 218 words (of my own writing, not my ghostwriting, which was another 29, 275 words)! So, that’s more than 60, 000 words in a month! It might not have amounted to any finished product ready to market and sell, but it’s still something to be proud of. 🙂

Happy Halloween! I’ll see you in November.
